“TO EXPAND, AN ORG MUST CONTINUALLY REACH NOT ONLY OLD AND ON-LINES PUBLIC BUT ESPECIALLY NEW PUBLIC. IT IS UPON THIS THAT FUTURE EXPANSION DEPENDS.”

301,805

February 1st, 2009

That number represents the newest fundraising total for the renovations to your Detroit Ideal Org building!

On Saturday 17 January 2009-a cold, snowy night in Detroit-your Ideal Org team held its DETROIT IDEAL ORG: GREEN FLAG EVENT at the Westin Southfield.

After a wonderful dinner, the event opened with a very special guest who braved the snow to deliver a special Detroit message and to help us REV OUR ENGINES for the completion of the funding for renovations of our beautiful Detroit Ideal Org building.

The Detroit public and staff were briefed on the current world scene, Detroit’s key role in the national economy, and the necessity of creating an Ideal Org in Detroit to secure the future of our society and our planet.

Following that talk, the Detroit field was very privileged to have yet another special guest that came here to kick off our RACE TO RENOVATE. The presentation publicly acknowledged all of the recent major donors to the new building project for their outstanding contributions, and made clear the need to finish the renovations and get on with the task of clearing Detroit and our Planet.

During the evening, the Detroit Ideal Org team raised over $301,805 for the new Ideal Org building renovations!

The biggest news is that our biggest donor committed to completing a one million dollar donation, which will make Detroit’s first New Civilization Builder!

Every donor made it known that they were contributing to a bright future for Scientology in Michigan.

We are moving ahead to get the remaining funds to renovate and move into our building by 2010. When one considers what the Detroit’s new Ideal Org building will do for our city and our society-saving lives and freeing beings-there is no other choice.

We know we can accomplish our goal with your help!

Love, the Members of the Detroit OT Committee

Sunday’s Brunch & Briefing

December 23rd, 2008

On 21 December 2008, the Detroit OT Committee held a delicious brunch for the field at the Farmington Hills Org.

Afterward, the audience was presented with a briefing on the status of the fundraising for the renovations of the Raymond James building in downtown Detroit.

Then, the crew pulled together and added another $7,600 to the donation board.

Good job guys & gals!

“THE DETROIT AREA AND I ARE NO STRANGERS. I USED TO FLY OVER THAT COUNTRY A GREAT DEAL, DOWN FROM PORT HURON, DOWN AROUND THE GREAT LAKES AREA. IN FACT SOME OF THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE HAVE BEEN FLYING AROUND THAT AREA.”
— L. RON HUBBARD Ron’s Journal 28 Detroit

The Detroit team members made their target! In just over four months, they raised four million dollars and completed the fundraising for their new Ideal Org building.

The story starts this way: immediately after returning home from the OT Summit at Flag in July, the team dedicated themselves to getting their newly approved Ideal Org building fully funded and purchased as rapidly as possible.

OT Committee members worked closely each day with org staff and Sea Org members in Detroit. The OT team called and met with Detroit public face-to-face to enlighten them on the Ideal Org strategy and got them to understand the urgency of completing the purchase of the building. The team held numerous enlightenment events to keep the field informed every step of the way.

As Detroit raced towards the finish line, the theme of the Detroit campaign evolved naturally into one of velocity, and events were given racing themes: The Final Mile, The Finish Line, and the Checkered Flag Event.

As the target date for the building purchase drew near, the OT team decided they needed to just wrap it up. The team held a 9-hour meeting in which they decided not to leave the org until they worked out solutions to raising all of the remaining funds. The meeting lasted until nearly 4:00 AM on Friday 19 October. The next few days were very intense with team members working round the clock to complete the target—and of course, they did! The last $90,000 was raised in a single Checkered Flag event held on Thursday 25 October, and following a wild post-event celebration, the building was purchased the next day.

The landmark building in downtown Detroit, formerly known as the Raymond James Building, was purchased on 26 October 2007 by the Church of Scientology of Michigan. This is one of the most prominent org buildings in Scientology, built literally on the cornerstone of the City of Detroit, plainly visible on the skyline and easily seen from Canada as well. The location is, for Detroit, analogous to having an org in Times Square or London’s Piccadilly Circus!
